Who is Rob?
Hi, my name is Rob. I can provide manual driving lessons in the Dronfield area of North East Derbyshire and am committed to helping learners become safe, confident drivers for life.
After 14 successful years in the IT industry, I decided it was time for a change – one that would combine my passion for driving with my desire to make a meaningful impact on others. Becoming a driving instructor was the perfect way to share my love for the road while empowering others to achieve their driving goals.
Cars have been a lifelong passion of mine, dating back to my earliest memories. While my family wasn’t particularly car crazy, I found inspiration in a few close friends who influenced my journey into the world of automobiles. I have fond memories of playing on my road mat carpet with my matchbox cars, to my first track-side visit to Thruxton Circuit to watch the British Touring Car Championship. Later creating similar memories, driving on track days, having learnt how to fix cars myself every time I broke them!
Today, I’m creating new memories, now sharing the same enthusiasm with my three young boys, who are building their own collections of Hot Wheels and remote control cars, and my baby daughter who regularly joins me watching car videos on Youtube!
Originally from South West London, my early years were shaped by my involvement with The Boys’ Brigade, where I developed essential life skills and earned the prestigious Queen’s Badge. I went on to become a volunteer member of staff, where I taught young people to play the side drum or the bugle – the latter being particularly difficult as I couldn’t play one myself! – enabling them to become an integral part of our parades. My journey didn’t stop there as I further trained to become the Company Captain and had the privilege of mentoring further young people, helping them to develop their own skills and achieve their goals.
In 2020, my family and I moved to Dronfield, where I quickly familiarised myself with the area, thanks to my strong sense of direction and natural curiosity. My life experiences, combined with a patient and relaxed teaching style, allow me to offer driving lessons that are calm, supportive and tailored to each learner’s needs.
Outside of work, you’ll find me exploring the UK with my wife Sarah and our four children, often visiting English Heritage or National Trust sites. As an avid go-karting enthusiast, I may also be hunting out new tracks! I’m a member of TeamSport karting and regularly take part in the member races at TeamSport Sheffield. It is a hobby that’s become rather serious as I found myself in the top 14 of the British Indoor Karting Championship, having become the Local (Sheffield) Champion and then the Regional (Leicester) Champion for my weight class in 2024!
I chose to train with LDC because I loved their personalised approach to learning. Having become a fully qualified instructor, I decided to go independent and part ways on good terms. I still teach today using similar techniques being sure to place you, the learner, at the centre of your driving journey, allowing progression at a pace that suits you best. My goal is to make every lesson enjoyable and productive, guiding you through your learning journey with the flexibility and support you deserve.
